Alfa Romeo 4C Makes UK Debut At Goodwood

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hG06UH7EfBw/TfdzqBMP8BI/AAAAAAAEjvU/urxmGhzvayc/s1600/AR_1588.jpg

The new Alfa Romeo 4C Sports Conceptwill receive its UK public debut at the rapidly approaching 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place from July 1st to 3rd.

The 4C is a two-seater, mid-engined, rear-wheel drive coup with drop-dead gorgeous looks, lightweight body, and a powerful 200bhp1750 TBi 4 cylinder petrol engine coupled with the new automatic Alfa TCT twin dry clutch transmission. The car has a top speed 155mph, kerb weight under 850kgs, 0-62 mph in under 5 seconds, and a power-to-weight ratio lower than 4kg per bhp.

The 33 TT 12 sported a 500-horsepower flat 12-cylinder engine displacing just 3.0 liters. It has been driven to victory in races by drivers like Derek Bell, Henri Pescarolo, and Jochen Mass during the mid-1970s. Though it doesn't look the part of a vintage racing Alfa the way the others do, features like the offset intake cowl and single rear-view mirror make it unique.

Alongside the Alfa 4C Concept on the Alfa Romeo exhibition stand will be an array of the Italian marques UK product range, including another UK public debut - the updated Alfa MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde, together with the Alfa Giulietta Cloverleaf and the Alfa 159 Sportwagon.

Press Release

This month, Alfa Romeo celebrates 101 years of motoring, and the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed (1-3 July) will help mark this occasion by playing host to the UK public debut of the mid-engined Alfa 4C Concept.

The Alfa 4C Concept is a classic formula of a two-seater, mid-engined, rear-wheel drive coup. Lightweight materials such as carbon-fiber and aluminium are used extensively throughout. These solutions, used in conjunction with a powerful 200bhp four cylinder petrol engine coupled with the new automatic Alfa TCT twin dry clutch transmission allow a top speed of 250km/h, kerb weight under 850kgs, 0-100km/h in under five seconds, and a power-to-weight ratio lower than 4kg per bhp.

While celebrating the future of Alfa Romeo at this years Festival of Speed, the marque will also be embracing its rich past, by showcasing five cars from the Alfa Romeo museum collection in Italy. These automotive legends include Fangios Alfa 6C 3000CM, which alongside the Alfetta 159, will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Fangios historic 1951 Formula One World Championship title, as well as the Alfa 6C 1750GS, Alfa 750 Competizione and the Alfa 33 TT 12. Spectators at the Festival will be able to see the cars in action over the three day event, and they will be on display in the Cathedral Paddock area.

Porsche Semper Vivus Hybrid?Video?

German car manufacturer has even released a video preview of the Porsche Semper Vivus Hybrid.

From concept cars to new technology, these events are held as a big show and tell for the worlds automakers. So, when a company brings out something thats over 100 years old to debut at one of these events, it seems a bit odd.

They spent four years at Porsche Museum recreating this magnificent vehicle so it can once again, after 111 years on, drive into the limelight at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 followed by future appearances as part of the Porsche Museum collection in Stuttgart.

  • Porsche presents first functional, full hybrid car in the world, the Semper Vivus, 111 years after its World Premiere in 1900. http://origin.porsche.com/uk
  • Recreation of ground-breaking car will make its debut on March 1 at Geneva Motor Show
  • European debut of 918 RSR concept underlines Porsche Intelligent Performance' philosophy

The name Porsche has been associated with pioneering innovations in automotive engineering since the beginning of the last century. In 1900, Ferdinand Porsche, founding father of the present-day Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, entered unchartered territory. With the first functional, full hybrid car in the world, the Semper Vivus ('always alive') http://origin.porsche.com/uk, the principle of the serial hybrid drive had been born.

In a stunning four year project the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart has had the Semper Vivus recreated. Next week, 111 years after this ground breaking innovation by Ferdinand Porsche, the Semper Vivus will again drive into the limelight at the Geneva Motor Show 2011 followed by future appearances as part of the Porsche Museum collection in Stuttgart.

Appropriately, Porsche is putting the spotlight of its presence at the 81st Geneva Motor Show on the world premiere of a contemporary parallel full hybrid model. In the wake of the success of the Cayenne S Hybrid it signals a new chapter in the Stuttgart company's Porsche Intelligent Performance' philosophy. Along with the Semper Vivus, the new hybrid model is being unveiled on March 1, 2011 at the press conference to be held on the Porsche stand in Hall 1, stand number 1050, starting at 07:30.

These world premieres in Geneva are being complemented by the 918 RSR hybrid racing car concept, making its first public appearance in front of a European audience. The mid-engine coup combines the design of the 918 Spyder with the technology of the 911 GT3 R hybrid racing car.

Porsche is also showcasing the 330 hp (243 kW) Cayman R in Europe for the first time, alongside the the 911 Black Edition, limited to 1,911 units, based on the 345 hp (254 kW) 911 Carrera, and the Boxster S Black Edition, limited to 987 units worldwide.

Allard J2X Making European Comeback

The Allard J2X, the racing car for the road car that 'did an AC Cobra' more than a decade before the Cobra itself, has been revived and is heading for sale in the UK and the rest of Europe.

The original Allard J2X was a limited production road racing car which totalled only 83 cars during its original production run between 1951 and 1954. The combination of powerful American V8 power and a lightweight chassis created a formidable machine that was put to good work in the hands of drivers such as Masten Gregory, Carroll Shelby and movie star, Steve McQueen.

The J2X MKII is a handcrafted modern incarnation of the iconic British competition roadster. The vehicle is powered by a GM Ram Jet V8 unit that delivers 350 hp and a peak torque of over 400 lb-ft (542 Nm).

A notable exception is the Allard J2X, which was designed specifically for American tastes and eventually powered by a Cadillac V8. The J2X combines the front of a Lotus Seven with an aggressive rear reminiscent of the Cobra to create something 100% wonderful.

The car can be seen on display at the Premium Classic Cars stand at the NEC Classic Motor Show this weekend (the 12th to the 14th of November) in Birmingham, U.K.
Price is expected to be around 95,000/111,550.

Legendary Allard J2X to live again in Europe as a modern, bespoke sports car

The Allard name will once again be seen on European roads, with the announcement that the Canadian-built Allard J2X MK II will be distributed across the continent by UK-based Premium Classic Cars Ltd.

The original Allard J2X was a limited production road racing car which totalled only 83 cars during its original production run between 1951 and 1954. The combination of powerful American V8 power and a lightweight chassis created a formidable machine that was put to good work in the hands of drivers such as Masten Gregory, Carroll Shelby and movie star, Steve Mc Queen.

Now, the Allard Motor Works has revived this legendary machine with the launch of the J2X MK II; a bespoke, modern, handcrafted version of the famed British competition roadster which integrates modern build quality and safety technology into the iconic design. Comfort, reliability and blistering performance are assured via a comprehensive mechanical specification which includes a 350 bhp, fuel injected, GM Ram Jet V8 with over 400 lb ft of torque.

Premium Classic Cars Director, Phil Dunmore says: "The Allard J2X MK II is an outstandingly good, high-quality, high-performance low-volume sports car, and its appeal will be obvious to anyone who sees or drives one. It is true to the original design but offers far greater levels of comfort, reliability and refinement. This is a bespoke, modern performance car with its roots in a glorious past and that's a recipe that will appeal to a lot of discerning European enthusiasts."

In fact, so accurate is the attention to detail and the quality of manufacturing that the official Allard Registry grants official numbering to these MK11 cars. Full specifications will be announced shortly and pricing is expected to be from 95,000.

The J2X MK II can be seen on the Premium Classic Cars stand at the NEC Classic Motor Show, stand no. ID31, over the 12th, 13th & 14th November.

1952 356 Cabriolet Is Porsche's Oldest Import in U.S.

The owner of the Strawberry Red 356 Cabriolet pictured above has earned the bragging rights for owning the oldest Porsche model sold in America. The discovery was made as part of the My Porsche Classic Search, which was launched in August to celebrate the brands 60th anniversary. The Porsche Classic Search was conducted online with owners having to submit documentation that their Porsche was one of the earliest in its category to be retailed in the USA.

The oldest documented sale was this rare 1952 356 Cabriolet owned by Dr. Robert Wilson of Oklahoma City, Okla. According to the company, Wilson's car was imported in November of 1952 by Austrian businessman, Max Hoffman, in New York, who brought the first Porsche cars to the U.S. beginning in 1950.

The 1952 Porsche 356 Cabriolet is powered by a 1.5 liter, 60 horsepower engine and was salvaged by its current owner from a salvage yard. The oldest Porsche in USA was completely restored.

The program also led Porsche to one of the first 356 cabriolets ever built--a 1950 model owned by Richard Brumme of Annapolis, Md. Brumme's Porsche is from the first batch of cars built in Stuttgart, Germany, after the company moved from Gmund, Austria. But because the car was originally sold outside the United States, Porsche gave the winning honors to Wilson's car.

Porsche Classic Search Crowns Rare 1952 356 Cabriolet as America's Oldest Import

National search also finds 12 of the earliest models sold in America

ATLANTA, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, Porsche Cars North America embarked on a quest to find the oldest Porsche sold in America. The Porsche Classic Search, conducted online at www.Porsche60Years.com, encouraged individuals from coast to coast to submit documentation that his or her Porsche was one of the earliest in its category to be retailed on American soil. With awards and bragging rights at stake, the call for entries yielded an impressive collection of finalists, including the oldest U.S. - retailed model found, a lovingly restored 1952 Strawberry Red 356 Cabriolet.

Launched in August, the My Porsche Classic Search received hundreds of submissions from Porsche owners across the country. Among them was a rare 1952 356 Cabriolet owned by Dr. Robert Wilson of Oklahoma City, Okla. Wilson's car was imported in November of 1952 by Austrian businessman, Max Hoffman, in New York, who brought the first Porsche cars to the U.S. beginning in 1950. The 1.5 liter, 60 horsepower gem was discovered in a salvage yard by Wilson years after arriving on U.S. soil and meticulously restored.

The My Porsche Classic Search also yielded the discovery of another distinguished and even rarer Porsche - a blue 1950 356 Cabriolet owned by Richard Brumme of Annapolis, Md. This car is one of the very first series production 356s built in Stuttgart, after the company relocated from Gmund, Austria. Impeccably restored with original parts sourced from around the globe, the 1950 356 Cabriolet was also recently honored with the 2010 Best in Show and Best in Class Awards at the 356 Registry's annual gathering in Cleveland, Ohio. While Brumme's car is unique and special, it was not the oldest Porsche actually retailed in America. This distinction goes to Wilson's 356 Cabriolet of 1952.

Porsche also encouraged owners of cars spanning 12 model ranges to enter their cars for a shot at earning the 'oldest' designation for their respective car model. Apart from the 356 lineup, entries were submitted for the Porsche 911, 912, 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayenne, Carrera GT and Cayman. The oldest Porsche models in America and their owners are:

  • 1965 911: Barry August of Clarksville, Md.
  • 1965 912: Steve Torkelsen of Wilton, Conn.
  • 1970 914: Ralph Stoesser of Marco Island, Fla.
  • 1977 924: Jay Hoover of New Haven, Ind.
  • 1977 928: Jim Doerr of Richmond, Va.
  • 1983 944: John Denning of Covington, Wash.
  • 1992 968: Jeffrey Coe of Trumball, Conn.
  • 1997 Boxster: David Adrian of Worcester, Mass.
  • 2004 Cayenne: Adam Reichard of Magnolia, Texas
  • 2005 Carrera GT: Robert Ingram of Durham, N.C.
  • 2006 Cayman: Eugenie Thomas of Martinez, Calif.

Porsche plans to honor the owners of these cars with an exclusive badge issued by the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, and by featuring images of the cars at the new "Sixty Years of Porsche in America" exhibit, which opened in the museum on Oct. 12. Additionally, the 1950 356 will be displayed at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November, where it will join the company's newest models.

The celebration is not yet over. Porsche aficionados still have an opportunity to participate in Porsche's 60th anniversary. Open until Nov. 1, the My Porsche Passion Contest encourages enthusiasts to submit a 500-word story that communicates their passion for a specific Porsche car or an experience with the Porsche brand at www.Porsche60Years.com. The top 20 stories, selected by a special panel of Porsche judges, will be available for public judging Oct. 25 Oct. 31. Fans are encouraged to vote online for their favorite essays from the list of 20 finalists. The three entries with the most votes will win an all-expense-paid trip to the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Ala.

Alfa Giulia GTAm best Alfa Romeo ever

Alfa Romeo have made 70 models in their 100 year history. 2010 just happens to be the centenary year of the famous Italian marque, so what better time to work out which car Alfa fans (thats Alfisti to you and I) think is the best Alfa made to date. As the article title suggests the Giulia GTAm won the poll, with a narrow margin over the 8C Competizione. Voting was conducted via the Alfa Centenary website.

The Alfa Giulia GTAm, which was voted as the best Alfa veer by 20.4 per cent of the overall tally, is based on the 1750 GT Veloce production model. It managed to win the 1970 European Touring Car Championship with driver Toine Hezemans at the wheel.

Coming in a close second with 19.8 percent of the votes was the 8c Competizione supercar, the fastest and most capable Alfa Romeo to date. But that's what you'd expect from a $180,000 (123,000) supercar.

The Giulia GTAm was a great Alfa and a deserved winner. Its really interesting to see how people voted in the poll. We all have our favorites which is testament to the fantastic cars Alfa Romeo has produced over the past century. For those of you interested, the latest GTAm is on sale in dealerships across the UK.

Press release

Although Alfa Romeo has to date created more than 70 models in its rich 100 year history, it all came down to a battle between just two iconic Alfas in a poll of fans favourites, initiated to celebrate the Italian marques centenary year.

And it was the Alfa Giulia GTAm that came top of the poll, beating the 8C Competizione supercar to the chequered flag with less than one percent more of the vote.

The Alfa Giulia GTAm, which gained 20.4 per cent of the overall tally, derived from the standard 1750 GT Veloce production model, and secured its place in the Alfa Romeo elite by winning the 1970 European Touring Car Championship in the hands of Dutchman Toine Hezemans. The votes for this poll were collected from admirers and owners known as Alfisti - who submitted photos of their Alfas to the alfacentenary.co.uk website to create a unique piece of mosaic artwork.

The GTAm and Alfas current supercar, the 8C Competizione, led the way against a shortlist of classics including the 2900 B Le Mans, Alfasud and the 156 GTA.

A worthy runner-up with 19.8 per cent, the 8C Competizione - worth more than 123,000 - debuted as a concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2003 and went on to be produced in 2008 as a limited edition model of just 500 examples and selling out almost immediately. The cars name derives from Alfas world famous 8 cylinder (8C) engine and the marques racing pedigree.

The Alfa Spider Duetto, widely regarded as a design classic, finished in third place with 16.01 per cent of the vote. This car was first launched in 1966 and famously starred in the legendary film The Graduate in 1967, alongside Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft.

Alfa Romeo UK Brand Communications manager, Damien Dally, says: The Giulia GTAm was a great Alfa and a deserved winner. Its really interesting to see how people voted in the poll. We all have our favourites which is testament to the fantastic cars Alfa Romeo has produced over the past century.

The latest five-door Alfa Giulietta model, which takes styling cues from the iconic 8C Competizione, is now on sale in dealerships across the UK. For further information visit www.alfaromeo.co.uk
