Ferrari is planning to officially unveil the 458 Spider at the Frankfurt Auto Show in a few weeks. The Spider shares most of the same features as the coupe, such as the 4.5 liter v8 with 562 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque, but will primarily differ with the feature of a retractable aluminum hardtop roof that will pit the spider directly against Lamborghini's Gallardo Spyder.
Ferrari traditionally puts a fabric roof on convertibles but managed to patent an aluminum design that retracts behind the seats just in front of the engine bay. This design actually weighs less than the preceding fabric design, allowing Ferrari to retain the 42:58 front-to-rear weight distribution that the coupe has. In addition to implementing a patented, weight-saving design, Ferrari has also managed to make these changes without compromising aerodynamics or performance. Small domes have been added behind the seats to assist with air flow to ensure appropriate cooling for the Italia and an electronic windstop has been added to ensure interior comfort and noise reduction for the driver and passenger in case you want to have a conversation at 124 mph.
Then in 2013, Ferrari is likely to launch the latest version (lifting) of California, and some news saying that this year would also support the Scuderia Ferrari 458, the car sebauh faster than 458 Italians and will be a few articles from Car 458 Racing Challenge.
